This directory contains several UNIX utilities for converting AFM to PL files. aftopl - an awk script that does basic AFM to PL conversion edsymbols & fontdimens - used by the Makefile in the TFM directory to make a Symbol font mk-con - makes a condensed AFM font (ie, squeezed horizontally) mk-obl - makes an oblique AFM font mk-red - makes a reduced (in both x and y) AFM font mk-sc - makes a smallcaps AFM fonts getmetrics - alternative way of getting AFM data...asks the printer for it!

AFMtopl (Wolczko) – Unix utilities for translating AFM files to PL
The conversion is done using an awk script, and a few Bourne shell scripts are provided for running the scripts for various synthetic outputs (such as faked small-caps). The mechanism cannot generate virtual fonts.
