The recent pdfpages package supports (u)platex with dvipdfmx driver. However in the case where pages of included pdf have different bounding boxes, an external program extractbb is called many times, causing significant loss of performance. This feature is greatly improved by the new dvipdfmx.def by caching bouding box data. The caching of bounding box data is implemented by N. Abe.

dvipdfmx-def – Configuration file for dvipdfmx graphics
This is the graphics driver for use when output is to be processed by dvipdfmx.
It is now distributed as part of the graphics-def bundle.
