CTAN Update: sketch

Date: August 11, 2008 1:53:46 PM CEST
On Sun, 10 Aug 2008 Eugene K. Ressler submitted an update to the sketch package. Location on CTAN: /graphics/sketch Summary description: 3d sketching in a PSTricks-like language; major update License type: gpl Announcement text:
This is a major update to the previous CTAN upload of Sketch. It has important adaptations to newer PSTricks versions, adds support for ConTeXt, and fixes a few bugs. Sketch is a small, simple system for producing line drawings of three-dimensional objects and scenes. It began as a way to make illustrations for a textbook after we could find no suitable tool for this purpose. Existing scene processors emphasized GUIs and/or photo-realism, both un-useful to us. We wanted to produce finely wrought, mathematically-based illustrations with no extraneous detail and be able to easily overlay TeX math and text. The input language is reminiscent of PSTricks, so will be easy to learn for current PSTricks users. See http://www.frontiernet.net/~eugene.ressler .
This package is located at http://mirror.ctan.org/graphics/sketch . More information is at http://tug.ctan.org/info/?id=Sketch (if the package is new it may take a day for that information to appear). We are supported by the TeX Users Group http://www.tug.org . Please join a users group; see http://www.tug.org/usergroups.html . _______________________________________________ Thanks for the upload. For the CTAN Team Rainer Schöpf

sketch – A 3d sketch language translator

Sketch is a small, simple system for producing line drawings of two- or three-dimensional objects and scenes. It began as a way to make illustrations for a textbook after we could find no suitable tool for this purpose. Existing scene processors emphasized GUIs and/or photo-realism, neither of which was useful to us. We wanted to produce finely wrought, mathematically-based illustrations with no extraneous detail.

The input language is reminiscent of PSTricks, so will be easy for current PSTricks users to learn; output is for use either by pstricks itself, or by pgf.
