The package LuaTeXtra brings a lot of new macros and lua functions for Plain and LaTeX users to use LuaTeX. This includes, among many other things, the macro \newluaattribute and the possibility to register serveral functions in a callback. This package is fully documented and contains a small introduction in a separate document. You must have this package in order to benefit from luainputenc or luaotfload.

luatextra – Additional macros for Plain TeX and LaTeX in LuaTeX
The package provides a coherent extended programming environment for use with LuaTeX. It loads packages fontspec, luatexbase and lualibs, and provides additional user-level features and goodies.
The package is under development, and its specification may be expected to change.
