Snapshot of SVN 4742 ==================== The major change in this snapshot is allowing expl3 to be loaded using formats other than LaTeX2e: \input expl3-generic % This allows the 'programming' layer to be used in a format-neutral way. Minor changes to the bundle include: - Further improvements to native driver code - Improve handling of class options by l3keys2e - Fix nesting of \keys_set_known:nnN - Various documentation tweaks and typo fixes There is also one removal from l3experimental: l3dt/xmetadata is dropped as while some of the ideas are useful, the existing implementation is too slow to be useful.

l3experimental – Experimental LaTeX3 concepts

The l3experimental packages are a collection of experimental implementations for aspects of the LaTeX3 kernel, dealing with higher-level ideas such as the Designer Interface. Some of them work as stand alone packages, providing new functionality, and can be used on top of LaTeX2ε with no changes to the existing kernel.

The present release includes:

l3benchmark for measuring the time taken by TeX to run certain code;
l3draw, a code-level interface for constructing drawings;
l3graphics, an interfaces for the inclusion of graphics files;
l3opacity, support for opacity in PDF output;
l3str, support for string manipulation;
xcoffins, which allows the alignment of boxes using a series of ‘handle’ positions, supplementing the simple TeX reference point;
xgalley, which controls boxes receiving text for typesetting.
